Overall, spacesuits have five main functions: Maintaining astronaut body temperature; maintaining pressure balance (ensuring the pressure experienced by astronauts is similar to that on Earth); blocking strong and harmful radiation (such as radiation from the sun); handling astronaut waste; providing oxygen; and removing carbon dioxide.
In terms of functionality, spacesuits come in two types: Intravehicular activity (IVA) suits and extravehicular activity (EVA) suits. The United States and China both use a combination of soft and hard materials. Regardless of the type, spacesuits consist of multiple layers that are interconnected to form a single garment. However, each layer must be lightweight, of high quality, and not too thick to avoid hindering the astronaut's movements.
